Nick, a London homeowner, contacted us because although he found the available space under his stairs useful for storing belongings, he wanted to better organise the area under the stairs and make his home look neater and more stylish.
During our initial free consultation with Nick, we discussed what he wanted to achieve from the renovation, the types of items he would be storing, and how he wanted the final installation to look. Following this discussion, we provided computer-generated designs showing the exact dimensions and positioning of the built-in storage cupboards and drawers. It is at this stage, customers can alter designs if necessary before agreeing on a final structural design.
Once the final designs were approved, our team of highly skilled carpenters got to work constructing and installing a mirrored door that has a slim wooden trim with an integrated push-to-open mechanism. The mirror amplifies the sense of light and space within the room and the use of a wooden trim means the mirror stays clean and free of fingerprints. Behind the door is space to hang clothes and store shoes and bags. It also conceals, yet allows easy access to the electric and gas meters.
The under stairs construction consists of a push-to-open vertical storage cupboard and two large sloped storage drawers fitted with heavy duty runners and stylish flush ring cabinet pulls. Within one drawer sits an integrated shelf, useful for storing smaller items. The drawers offer a large amount of extra space and limitless versatility for smaller items or shoe storage. To finish the installation and give it its polished and restored appearance, we hand finished in premium Farrow and Ball Wevet paint (No. 263).
The finished stairs cupboard ensures Nick still has plenty of storage space but within an elegant structure that keeps his living space neat and tidy and which adds value to his home by reducing wasted space.
